Singing to a Different tune

SCOOP studios always feels like home to me, it’s where I had my first real internship and it was a really nice introduction to the art world. It’s just good vibes all around. Anyways so their newest show is called the Diverse Chorus and was curated by Kevin Taylor. Kevin brought in 27 different artist from around the United States and put them all in one show with one piece per artist. The result, was one really…Diverse Chorus. I had a second so I talked with Kevin and his thought was that he just really wanted to bring some great artist to Charleston and expose the city to some fresh talent. He said he doesn’t  necessarily see himself curating a lot of shows and that he’s an artist primarily. I know its not a regular thing for Kevin but he did a great job.

Along with bringing some awesome pieces Kevin also brought some of his friends with him from San Fransisco. One was Olivia Song Park who does these intricate drawings with a quill and uses the smallest point she can find.

Olivia’s plan initially is to completely fill the paper with designs but has only ever filled up one. She also does installations and says that its hard to focus on a drawing because its just a drawing. Below is the drawing that was put into the Diverse Chorus by Olivia. You can’t see it so well in the picture but each dot is a tiny circle. Each piece of art has its own charm and is interesting in its own way. I really only talked about two artist so take the trip and go see the show while its up. You’ll be happy you did.
